EIU Assistant Professor Elliott Zieman was awarded a $15,000 research grant from the National Center for Veterinary Parasitology (NCVP - National Center for Veterinary Parasitology - Home (ncvetp.org). These grants have traditionally only been awarded to investigators at R1s and/or veterinary schools. The NCVP grant will support my continuing research on Cytauxzoon felis, a tick-borne parasite that causes a fatal disease in domestic cats. The results from the awarded study will help scientists understanding of the pathogenicity of cytauxzoonosis and may lead to advances in treatment with the aim of increasing the survivability of this disease. | news
