EIU PR senior Alexis Johnson named “Most Promising Student” in American Advertising Federation Class of 2025 Awards

Feb-24-2025

Alexis Johnson(Charleston, IL) — Alexis Johnson, a senior public relations student at Eastern Illinois University's (EIU) School of Communication and Journalism, has been awarded the prestigious “Most Promising Class of 2025” award by the American Advertising Federation (AAF). According to the AAF website, this esteemed recognition highlights her exceptional talent, dedication, and potential in the field of public relations and advertising.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to represent EIU and for the incredible support and guidance I’ve received from my professors throughout this journey,” Johnson said. “AAF’s dedication to celebrating and uplifting multicultural talent is truly inspiring, and I’m honored to be part of a program that celebrates diversity. This experience will open doors and place me in spaces I’ve long dreamed of, and I hope my journey inspires other EIU students to continue to boldly pursue their ambitions.”

As part of the honor, Johnson will embark on a fully paid, one-week trip to New York City, where she will have the unique opportunity to learn from and network with top professionals in the industry. This experience is designed to enhance her skills, broaden her professional network, and provide her with invaluable insights into the dynamic world of advertising and public relations.

Johnson serves as a director of Panther Communications, EIU's student-run public relations agency, where according to the agency’s leaders she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a commitment to excellence. She plans to graduate this May.

Anna Kochigina, assistant professor of public relations and faculty advisor for Panther Communications, expressed her pride in Johnson’s achievement.

“This is a very prestigious award, and we are incredibly proud of Alexis. This honor highlights Alexis’ dedication, talent, and bright future in the industry. It’s also a reflection of the hard work and excellence of our entire school community and program,” Kochigina said. “We believe that celebrating and embracing different perspectives drives creativity and innovation in everything we do. Alexis’ achievement is a powerful reflection of these values, and we are delighted to see our students thrive and succeed in the program."

In 1997, the AAF began the Most Promising Student program to connect the advertising industry with the nation’s top college students. Since then, nearly a thousand students from colleges and universities across the country have participated in this premier event. Students attribute the success in obtaining a job after graduation to the distinction that comes from participating in the Most Promising program.

EIU prepares students to accomplish their life goals through a combination of quality academics, personal relationships, and both on-campus and online learning opportunities.
