Employment Opportunities at the HERC

HERC APPLICATION*

Currently the HERC is not accepting applications and all positions are filled at this time for the 24-25 academic year. Please check back as early as February 2025 for possible updates.

* Please note that filling out the HERC application is not a subsitiute. You must apply to the Graduate School GA application and the HERC application. 

 

Application Materials Required

PLEASE NOTE: In addition to the Graduate School GA application, you must submit the HERC application.  

Please submit the following materials:

  • Updated resume
  • Three names of references
  • At least one letter of recommendation (can be submitted in a hard copy form)
  • Unofficial academic transcripts

NOTE: All materials except the EIU Graduate Assistantship Application must be submitted to the HERC, even if the materials have been submitted to other programs/departments. All documents MUST be submitted electronically.

The Health Education Resource Center offers several for-credit and non-credit opportunities for students wishing to expand and further develop their knowledge and experience-base.

The HERC offers internships focusing on a variety of areas including:

Student Employee Opportunities:

The HERC employs student employees to assist with the day to day office and clerical work in our office. We are always on the lookout for good student workers to fill positions as needs arise!

Requirements of a HERC student worker include:

  • Ability to work at least 10 hours per week during HERC office hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in person
  • Positively represent the HERC and Health Service
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Interest in health always a plus!

Typical HERC Student Worker Responsibilities

  • Answering phones, taking messages, and directing callers to appropriate individuals or campus offices
  • Greeting students, staff, and faculty that visit the HERC
  • Assembling safer sex packets for Rubber Lover members
  • Assisting visitors looking for health education materials in our resource library
  • Assisting with Bulletin Board to Go program
  • Posting posters, fliers, and other information on bulletin boards around campus
  • Updating databases
  • Inputting data on spreadsheets
  • Word processing
  • Other office duties/projects as assigned
