TRIO Scholarships

As a TRIO student, you are eligible to apply for TRIO scholarships to be applied toward each recipient’s tuition or on-campus Housing expenditures. Scholarship monies will be applied to each recipient’s total financial aid package by July 1, of each year. To apply for this scholarship, you will need to complete the following steps.

1. Complete and submit the On-line Scholarship Application.
2. Obtain two Letters of Recommendation from a:
   • Professor (that has taught at least one of your college courses)
   • Other (professional/employer)
3. Prepare a personal essay supporting need for scholarship
4. Submit printed copy of your current and next year financial aid packages

Please complete and submit the required packet by March. This timeline allows you enough time to secure the necessary letters of recommendation and write your essay. We strongly recommend that you request your letters of recommendation as soon as possible. To be eligible, students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. The scholarship recipients will be selected by a committee of faculty and university staff who are knowledgeable about the TRIO SSS program. No TRIO advisor will be involved in the selection process. Supporting materials for the scholarship should be returned to the TRIO/Student Support Services office via any of the methods below:

• On campus address envelope to the TRIO SSS program
• Off campus mail to TRIO/Student Support Services, Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, IL 61920.
• Drop it off and meet the staff at our office at McAfee Gym, Room 1125
• The application must be complete online. Attach essay and click submit.
