If you are experiencing a psychiatric crisis, please call or walk in to the EIU Counseling Clinic immediately. We have a counselor on call during our open hours: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please see below for our after hours protocols.
Our staff will complete a brief screening to determine if you need to be seen right away or scheduled for a priority appointment based on urgency.
A crisis may include:
Thoughts, urges, or a plan to harm yourself or someone else
Experiencing hallucinations or active psychosis
A recent trauma and/or loss causing significant emotional distress
A serious decline in functioning, such as being unable to care for basic needs
