EIU Events Calendar: Best Practices
By following these best practices, you can ensure that your campus event is well-publicized and attracts the attention it deserves! Have questions about the EIU Event Calendar or need one of your events edited? Let us know!
Reminders
- Weekly Upcoming Events Email: All EIU calendar events are included in an email sent to all students and employees every Sunday evening.
- EIU Daily Digest: Events for the next three days are featured in the EIU Daily Digest.
Use a Descriptive Title
- Ensure your event title is clear, concise, and informative.
- Highlight the main attraction or purpose of the event.
Clear and Inviting Language
- Write a brief, engaging description of your event.
- Include the key details: who, what, when, where, and why.
- Make it inviting to encourage attendance.
- RSVP/Ticket Information: Mention if registration or tickets are required and how to obtain them.
- Use the entire proper name first. E.G.: Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL)
Tag Your Event
- Tag your event with audience, event type and office or department sponsoring event.
- Tags will help filter events for departmental calendars and for the user.
Include an Appealing Image
- Attach a relevant and high-quality image to make your event stand out. Images can increase engagement and interest.
- We recommend a horizontal image, sized 1000x300 pixels.
Accurate Time and Contact Information
- Double-check the date and time of your event for accuracy.
- Provide a contact person’s name, email, and phone number for any inquiries.
Submit in Advance
- Submit your event as early as possible to maximize visibility.
- Early submissions ensure inclusion in weekly and daily emails.
Additional Best Practices
- Audience Specification: Clearly state the intended audience (e.g., students, faculty, general public).
- Accessibility Information: Include details about accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
- Social Media Links: Provide links to any social media pages or event pages.
- Follow-Up: Plan for and mention any follow-up events or sessions.
