Subject: New Area Code and Dialing Instructions Coming Soon
The Illinois Commerce Commission has announced a new area code is coming to central Illinois. The new 447 area code will “overlay” the existing 217 area code to address the depletion of prefixes available for assignment within the region.
This change will affect how users on campus dial local and long distance, as well as, call forwarding.
When detailed instructions are available, they will be distributed via email to the campus community.
