Subject: Brute Force Attacks - Follow Up

As mentioned in the email yesterday, we are working diligently on a solution that would circumvent the brute force attacks against EIU user accounts. On Tuesday the 22nd, we will be implementing a CAPTCHA to our login page for specifc applications such as Panthermail and Banner. The first time you authenticate it will require you to check the box below the Password field and answer the CAPTCHA by selecting pictures with specific objects in them.

By adding this authentication mechanism, we should be able to remediate the brute force attacks and reduce the number of user accounts being locked. If you do run into any issues or have further questions, please do not hesitiate to give User Services a call at 217-581-4357 or reach out by emailing support@eiu.edu.

Thank you.
