EIU’s Greek life, RHA continue to enrich Coles County community

Oct-15-2025

A variety of spooky & family-friendly events set for Halloween season on EIU’s campus this fall

(Charleston, IL) — Eastern Illinois University is gearing up for another fall season of Halloween-inspired fun—and once again the University’s students and supporters are stepping up to provide a safe and entertaining place to celebrate the season with kids and families of all ages.

Greeks and Treats

Greeks & Treats
- Friday, October 31, 5 to 7 p.m.

Since 2019, EIU’s Greek life organizations have invited community members to join them at “The Egg” in Greek Court—just east of Roosevelt Drive and Ninth Street on EIU’s campus. Families can expect kid-friendly trick-or-treating, games, and Halloween-themed crafts in a safe, family-friendly environment. Free parking will be available in the Ninth Street lot at the northeast corner of Roosevelt Drive and Ninth Street. Sponsored by Greek Court, the Panhellenic Council, the Interfraternity Council, and the National Pan-Hellenic Council, the event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities with several Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) also hosting themed tables with treats and games. For those who have never attended, this is an interactive event where community members can visit EIU’s campus and get to know students in EIU’s various fraternities and sororities.

Pemberton Haunted House Pemberton Hall’s “Abandoned Schoolhouse”
- Friday, October 31, 8 to 10 p.m.
- Saturday, November 1, 7 to 10 p.m.
with special evening ‘Kids Hour’ activities from 7 to 8 p.m.

For those interested in a more traditional “spooky” Halloween experience, scare-chasers can test their mettle at the “Abandoned Schoolhouse”—Pemberton Hall’s annual haunted house. Step inside the eerie hallways of the first all-female residence hall in Illinois built in 1909. Every corner will hide a chilling surprise while participants brace themselves for the ultimate end-of-experience scare. Admission is just $3 for one ticket or $5 for two tickets (cash only). In place of tickets, attendees can gain admittance by donating two cans of non-perishable food items—helping those in need while enjoying the thrills! All proceeds will benefit the EIU Campus Food Pantry. Enjoy a night of frightful fun while helping members of EIU’s very own Panther community. The event is coordinated in part by EIU’s Residence Hall Association (RHA) and put on by EIU students, many of whom are Pemberton Panther Leaders and Pemberton Hall residents. Pemberton Hall is located on the southeast corner of Lincoln Avenue and 4th Street in Charleston.

EIU prepares students to accomplish their life goals through a combination of quality academics, personal relationships, and both on-campus and online learning opportunities.
