From the HERC
On Tuesday, February 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Health Education Resource Center (HERC) will be holding the first-ever International Student Health and Resource Fair at the MLK Student Union – University Ballroom. Vendors from various Eastern Illinois University departments and the Charleston community will be present with the goal of helping international students, both new and returning, to learn more about services in the community, improve their health, and safety.
We at the HERC recognize that college can be a stressful time for students overall, but the stressors for our international students can be magnified due to the change in culture, and a need to foster a sense of belonging. International students represent 1/5th of EIU’s student body and as part of the student body, the HERC seeks to play a role in their well-being during their time here.
The HERC has further partnered with the Vice President of Student Affairs office and the Office of International Students and Scholars to help promote this inaugural event. Numerous other departments on campus and the community are attending, further demonstrating the collaborative efforts of the EIU and Charleston Community. Some offices include the Rec Center, the Office of Leadership and Engagement, and the Counseling Center while off-campus partners include HOPE, the Secretary of State’s office, Charleston Fire Department, and others. For any further questions, please contact Mr. Matthew Warner at mrwarner@eiu.edu or call the HERC office at (217) 581-7786.
