EIU to host variety of Halloween events for community in October/November

Oct-20-2023

(Charleston, IL) – It’s spooky season and Eastern Illinois University will once again host a variety of events this year to celebrate Halloween with students, employees, and members of the community.

“Greeks & Treats” will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 31 in “The Egg” at Greek Court, located just east of the corner of Roosevelt Drive and Ninth Street on EIU’s Charleston, IL campus. There, participants can enjoy trick-or-treating, games and Halloween-themed crafts in a family-friendly and safe environment. Free parking is available in the Ninth Street parking lot at the northeast corner of Roosevelt Drive and Ninth Street. The event is sponsored by Greek Court, Panhellenic Council, and the Interfraternity Council. The governing councils (PHC & IFC), along with invited Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) will have tables and host various fun activities within The Egg, including pumpkin smashing, pumpkin tic-tac-toe, and jumbo Jenga.

In addition, EIU’s famously haunted Pemberton Hall will host its annual Halloween event, this year titled “Carnival of Terror,” from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, November 3 and 4. Described as “a circus that will send you running home,” price for entry to this event is $4 per person or 2 for $7 (cash only) with all proceeds being donated to HOPE of East Central Illinois—a domestic violence prevention and intervention service in Charleston, Illinois. HOPE maintains a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week, 365-day-a-year toll-free crisis hotline providing support, intervention, information, and referrals, available at (888) 345-3990. Pemberton Hall was opened in 1909, named in honor of State Senator Stanton C. Pemberton, who was influential in getting the appropriation approved for the building of the residence hall. In addition to having a reputation for being “haunted,” Pemberton Hall is the oldest women’s residence hall in the state of Illinois and a historical landmark. It is located on the southeast corner of 4th Street and Lincoln Avenue in Charleston.

EIU prepares students to accomplish their life goals through a combination of quality academics, personal relationships, and both on-campus and online learning opportunities.
