Two More EIU Students win Emmy Awards

Jul-18-2018

Eastern Illinois University students Abbey Taylor and Maher Kawash are two of the university’s most recent students to win Emmy Awards for their onscreen performances.

Taylor, of Wood River, won an Emmy Award in the Talent Entry in the 2018 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Mid-America Student Television Awards. Kawash, of Bolingbrook, also received an honorable mention award in the talent category.

EIU News Watch was also awarded first place for Outstanding Television Newscast at this year’s Illinois News Broadcasters Association student awards competition.

EIU’s Journalism program teaches students to report breaking news, investigate corruption, design award-winning publications, produce newscasts, cover professional sports, develop public relations campaigns, promote college athletics, and frame major events. Several graduates of the program have gone on to win Pulitzer Prizes, Emmy Awards and other industry recognitions for their journalistic efforts. More information about EIU’s Journalism program is available at https://www.eiu.edu/journal/index.php.
