Phase I Prerequisites
Students without a business undergraduate degree can fulfill prerequisites through:
- EIU’s full-semester or summer courses (online or on-campus).
In Summer terms, we offer most of the Phase I courses as online courses for our undergraduate degree programs. Students enrolled in the MBA program are eligible to enroll in these courses and with attainment of a grade of "C" or better, are considered to have met the Phase I requirement. We also offer our Phase I courses as semester long courses in Spring and Fall terms in face-to-face settings on-campus.
- Equivalent courses from accredited institutions (with prior approval).
Phase I courses at the 2000 level can be completed at a community college or university; 3000 level courses need to be completed at a 4-year college or university. *It is highly recommended to verify with the Graduate Coordinator regarding course equivalencies prior to enrollment at another institution. Once the course is completed with a grade of "C" or higher, have transcripts sent to the MBA program office.
- EIU's On-Demand Online Modules: Convenient, non-credit options to quickly build foundational knowledge. Modules are self-paced, affordable, and accessible throughout the year.
The EIU MBA program offers online modules for students who need to complete Phase I prerequisites to the program. Each online module consists of 25 - 40 hours of course materials. Modules cover the essential material that is required for you to be successful in the MBA class(es) that requires it as a prerequisite. Modules are conveniently offered throughout the year “on demand” so that you can use a module that you have passed to fulfill a prerequisite for the upcoming semester.
Modules Available in Each Session:
- Module 2101 Financial Accounting
- Module 2102 Managerial Accounting
- Module 2750a Business Ethics
- Module 2750b Business Law Essentials
- Module 2801-2802 Fundamentals of Economics
- Module 2810 Business Math and Statistics
- Module 3010 Principles of Management
- Module 3470 Principles of Marketing
- Module 3500 Information Systems
- Module 3710 Understanding Corporate Finance
- Module 3950 Operations Management
The cost of each module is $350 and includes the text, videos, and other materials that you will need to complete each module. We recommend signing up for one module at a time, as you have 90 days from the date of enrollment to complete the module. After 90 days, you will need to re-enroll and pay to repeat the module. Students complete an online assessment exam at the end of each module and must successfully pass with an 80% or higher score within three attempts to meet the related prerequisite.
Modules are not-for-credit, do not show up on your transcript, and can only be used to fulfill a prerequisite for the EIU MBA program. Modules require the same prerequisites as the class that they are replacing. Thus the prerequisites for the BUS 3950 module are BUS 3010 (or Module 3010) and BUS 2810 (or Module 2810).
