Internship Experiences

Internship Process for Journalism Majors

If you plan to complete an internship for credit and you are a Journalism major, you must follow the process detailed below in order to be enrolled in your internship class for credit.

Taking an internship for credit means that you are taking an actual class (JOU 4275) for credit and are completing the components of that class while completing the internship itself. This means that tuition is charged for each credit hour for which you are enrolled.  For further information on tuition, see the Financial Aid website, https://www.eiu.edu/finaid/cost.php

Follow the steps below to be enrolled in JOU 4275 and receive credit for the internship you are completing:

  1. It is the responsibility of the student to identify and secure his/her internship. After you have arranged an internship, you need to complete the following:
  2. Complete and submit the Journalism Internship Application.
  3. After your application has been approved, you will be contacted by the Journalism Advisor to complete an Internship Contract.  Fill out the contract and submit it electronically.  You will be notified through your EIU email when you have been registered for internship hours.
  4. Always check your schedule on PAWS before the academic term begins to make sure you are registered for the correct courses and the correct number of hours.

For more information about journalism internship credit, please contact Ms. Betsy Jewell, Journalism Advisor, at cejewell@eiu.edu.
