EIU’s beloved mascot, Billy Panther, will be spreading Panther Pride throughout the EIU Homecoming Pre-Week with special visits to Charleston area grade schools. Students’ creativity will also shine with a Homecoming coloring contest, proudly displayed in the MLK Jr. Union!

Panther Pursuit Scavenger HuntAcross Campus & the Charleston Community

Get ready for the ultimate Homecoming adventure with the Homecoming Panther Pursuit Scavenger Hunt! This isn't just any scavenger hunt — it's a fun and interactive challenge that brings together EIU alumni and students for a celebration like no other!

Here's the deal: you'll get a list of local hotspots, from favorite restaurants to must-see landmarks. Your mission? Visit as many of these places as possible, snap a creative photo at each spot, and show off your Panther pride!

To join in, just post your photos on social media with the hashtag #PantherPursuit and either #EIUAlum or #EIUStudent. Each post counts as an entry for some amazing prizes – we've got exclusive goodies for both alumni and students. Plus, it’s the perfect way to make new memories or relive the best ones.

So, round up your friends, grab your cameras, and hit the town! Let's show everyone what it means to be a proud Panther and make this Homecoming unforgettable!

In collaboration with the Charleston Tourism Office, this community-wide spirit initiative encourages residents, civic groups, and businesses to show their support for EIU Homecoming Week. Join the celebration with stickers, window placards, yard signs, and Spirit T-shirts as we unite to turn Charleston Panther blue!

Real Panthers Decorate BlueAcross Campus

Get ready to deck the halls, walls, doors, and windows for EIU Homecoming Week 2024! EIU departments, offices, residence halls, and registered student organizations are invited to show off their Panther pride in spirited decorating competitions. Compete for exciting prizes, awards, and ultimate bragging rights. Let’s see who can showcase their EIU spirit the best!

Get in the spirit with a banner representing your RSO, residence hall or group! All spirit banners must include the homecoming theme, "Saddle Up Panthers: EIU Homecoming 2024" and Greek/RSO/Residence Hall/group name.

Saddle Up for Service Food Drive Across Campus

EIU Panthers are saddling up for service during Homecoming Week by partnering with the EIU Campus Food Pantry to tackle food insecurity and hunger among students. The EIU Campus Food Pantry supports students by providing essential food items, and the entire EIU community is encouraged to give back through monetary donations, volunteering, or donating non-perishable food items. Join us in making a difference—sign up for a volunteer slot below.

Homecoming Kickoff: Boots & BBQ with Billy11 am - 1 pm, Library Quad

EIU students, faculty, and staff are invited to wear their EIU blue and join the celebration as we kick off Homecoming Week 2024! Enjoy food trucks, a live DJ, games, and giveaways for all. Snap a photo with Billy the Panther at the photo station and enter for a chance to win the grand prize—a pair of cowboy boots! Let’s start Homecoming Week in true Panther style!

Celebrate the crowning of this year's Homecoming Royalty at the Homecoming Royalty Coronation! Join us for an elegant evening as we honor the outstanding students who embody the spirit of EIU.

Tuesday, Oct. 1

HOCO on the Go!11 am - 1 pm, Across Campus

The Panther Patrol will be cruising around campus, spreading EIU Panther Pride! Members of the 2024 EIU Homecoming Committee will be making stops at EIU departments and offering golf cart rides across campus. Keep an eye out for the team as they travel around, strike up fun deals, and hand out exciting prizes and giveaways!

Homecoming Western Crafts Night7 - 9 pm, MLK Jr. Union University Ballroom 

Eastern goes western as EIU Homecoming Week 2024 brings a cowboy twist with a western-style paint-n-sip and fun arts and crafts stations! Unleash your creativity with activities like color me cowboy hats, western wanted photo frames, old time photo keepsakes, quick draw, and more. Refreshments will be provided, so come on down and enjoy the artistic side of the wild west!

Wednesday, Oct. 2

Faculty & Staff Blue-B-Que11 am - 1 pm, Doudna Concourse

The annual EIU Blue-B-Que promises to be fun for all EIU faculty and staff. EIU employees are invited to come together over a complimentary meal and Homecoming prizes and giveaways. Faculty and staff who bring canned goods to donate to the EIU Campus Food Pantry will receive extra tickets for great Homecoming prizes and giveaways!

Cosmic Bowling Mixer7 - 9 pm, MLK Jr. Union EIU Lanes

When the lights go down, the fun begins! The EIU Bowling Lanes in the MLK Jr. Union will be the place to be, featuring 12 lanes of glow-in-the-dark bowling fun! Highlights of the event include backlighting, mock-tails bar, popcorn, pizza, free shoe rental, discount games and Homecoming prizes and giveaways.

Thursday, Oct. 3

EIU students, faculty, and staff are invited to join the spirit-filled fun at the EIU Rodeo Roundup, a free event packed with snacks, prizes, giveaways, inflatables, yard games and more.

Friday, Oct. 4

Class of 1974 50th Reunion4 - 8 pm, Old Main Foyer

The EIU Alumni Services invites the class of 1974 back to campus to celebrate their 50th Anniversary in conjunction with EIU Homecoming.

Homecoming Hoedown Line Dance7 - 10 pm, MLK Jr. Union University Ballroom

Yee-haw, partner! Saddle up for the EIU Homecoming Hoedown! Get ready to kick up your heels and line dance the night away. We've got live music, giveaways, and all the refreshments you can handle. So dust off your cowboy boots and join us for a night of country fun!

Saturday, Oct. 5

Rotary Pancake Breakfast6:30 - 10 am, Dirty's Parking Lot

The all-you-can-eat Rotary Pancake Breakfast is one of the most endearing Homecoming traditions during EIU Homecoming Week. Charleston Rotarians will serve sunrise pancakes and drinks during the Homecoming parade to welcome EIU alumni, students, faculty, staff and Charleston residents prior to the start of the EIU Homecoming Run and parade events. Sponsored by the Charleston Rotary Club, the proceeds benefit local charities. Tickets: Adults - $6, Children 11 and under - $3.

26th Annual 2.5K Run / Walk9 am, Starts at corner of 7th St. and Lincoln Ave.

Lace up your sneakers for this 2.5K race around the Charleston Square in celebration of Eastern Illinois University's homecoming! This is not a timed race, but prizes will be given for first finishers by age categories. Sponsored by the City of Charleston’s Department of Parks & Recreation and Department of Tourism. Entry fee: $15

The EIU Homecoming Parade is an annual tradition that historically consists of around 100 campus/community parade entries. Highlights include the Parade Grand Marshall, decorated cars, bands, banners and floats.

Tailgate & Tent City11 am, O'Brien Field Tailgate Area

EIU faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to the game day experience! Panther Pride will be on full display during the tailgate festivities in Alumni Tent City featuring EIU academic tents, Panther Marching Band, food, games, music, and fun for all ages.
