This session will discuss strategies that help students apply the written feedback they receive on one assignment to future assignments in the same course or even in later courses in the major. Building scaffolded structures for evaluating assignments may seem daunting at first, but doing so can take the pressure of individual assignments (and instructors!) to measure everything that goes into making a piece of writing successful.

Location: Center for Student Innovation (1220 Booth) and Synchronous Online Session (Zoom): https://eiu.zoom.us/j/99652731594
This session will outline a strategy I term “evidence-based feedback” to help instructors fairly assess subjective student work, such as speaking presentations. Using student performance and rubric criteria, this strategy draws on the work of John Hattie and Helen Timperley to help instructors answer three feedback questions: 1) where am I going? 2) how am I going; and 3) where to next? This session will introduce instructors to a model of feedback that helps reduce biases in grading and will help them think about how to apply it to subjective assignments in their own courses.
This workshop is offered as a FDIC Flex "hybrid" session both in-person and synchronously on Zoom. A Zoom link will be emailed to all registrants to join in-person or live online.
