Graduate Assistantships

The College of Education Dean's Office typically staffs about five assistantships; since most graduate assistants serve for two years, in a given year the Dean's Office will hire an average of two or three graduate assistants.

Because the College's priorities, initiatives, and needs change from year to year, the nature of graduate assistant work will also change from year to year.  Areas in which our graduate assistant work include recruitment and retention of minority students; rural schools initiative; assessment and accreditation efforts for the university's educator preparation programs; providing support for the Instructional Technology Center in Buzzard Hall; alumni outreach; philanthropy activities; testing support for education majors, and publications for the College.

For the 2021-22 academic year, we anticipate the following opportunities:

  • Grow Your Own / Rural Schools Initiative - Communications and Outreach
  • College of Education Assessment and Accreditation - Data and Technology Support
  • College of Education Development and Alumni Relations / Academy of Lifelong Learning - General Support

Here is information to help you consider a graduate assistantship in the College, as well as information on how to apply.

Standard Qualifications for Assistantship(s): Full-time graduate student, preferably in a program within the College of Education. Must possess basic technology skills (e.g., Microsoft Suite and other office productivity tools); able to work regularly and reliably in an office environment; able to interact positively with administrators, staff, faculty, students, and the public; able to work independently and efficiently; general knowledge of issues related to the academic mission of the College (teacher, counselor, administrator, and adult education) is helpful.

General Hiring Timelines: Applications may be submitted during the Spring semester of the year preceding the start of appointment; depending on the application pool and that year's hiring needs, decisions can be made anytime between March 1 and August 15.
