University Foundations (EIU 1111) Seeking Fall 2025 Instructors
The Student Success Center is seeking energetic, innovative, and engaged individuals to teach EIU 1111: University Foundations, Eastern’s freshman seminar, for Fall 2025. Please consider bringing your passion, experience, and expertise to our newest students welcoming them to campus and to their new adventures at EIU.
Interested EIU community members must have a bachelor's degree or higher with experience in higher education and/or be pursuing their master’s degree. Applicants must work full-time for the University or be a recent retiree. Graduate students currently pursuing a degree may apply to teach for practicum hours, which must be approved by the graduate student’s department. We welcome newcomers as well as returning instructors to this unique and rewarding teaching opportunity.
EIU 1111 is currently undergoing a complete redesign, and instructors will be expected to follow a set curriculum while bringing personal and professional experience to the classroom. In addition, instructors will be expected to attend immersive training on the newly designed course and its implementation.
Other guidelines for the course:
EIU 1111 is now a (1) credit hour course, and the class meets one day a week. Applicants will identify days and times that fit their schedule.
Incoming freshmen with under a 3.00 High School GPA will be required to take this course; incoming freshmen with a GPA above this can elect to take the course, including as part of their Freshman Connection experience.
Instructors may teach up to (2) course sections.
The application for new instructors is available New Applicant University Foundations 1111 and the application for returning instructors is Returning Applicant University Foundations 1111. Applications are due by the end of the day on March 14, 2025. Instructors will be notified of their acceptance by April 30, 2025, and at that time the day and location of the training session will be provided.
