EIU Management Program

Management

All businesses, as well as nonprofit and government entities, need graduates who can manage effectively and efficiently.

The Management major prepares students to lead and coordinate people, resources, activities and systems to achieve organizational goals. The program focuses on the critical functions of managers: planning, organizing, controlling, and directing.

Management graduates pursue varied career paths. The knowledge and skills developed through the major provide students career flexibility. Finding an entry-level position immediately after college is best achieved when Management majors start career planning early and identify their own strengths and career criteria, and then research aligning career options. Internships are an excellent way to explore those career directions.

The School of Business Management Major offers three concentrations:

  • General Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • International Business Management

Students in each concentration develop knowledge and skills needed for entry-level positions that serve as a foundation for career growth. Students who specialize in certain areas may obtain certifications after college. Those who are interested in becoming upper-level executives generally work for a few years and then pursue a graduate degree such as the MBA (Master's in Business Administration).
