All of your favorite camp activities . . . in Spanish!
What would YOU like to do during your residential summer camp experience? Play some soccer or basketball? Do some arts and crafts? Cook a new dish? How about doing all of these fun activities in Spanish while living on a college campus? Join us June 23-June 28 for a week of Spanish language immersion and cultural experiences you will never forget on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois! All students who will be in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in fall 2019 and who have had at least one year of high school Spanish are welcome.
Your typical day at camp
Camp activities are centered on student interests while encouraging an immersion environment. Activities are supervised by EIU faculty, aided by Spanish-speaking counselors that also live with you in the dorm. Formal classroom instruction is limited to allow you to use your language skills in real-life situations. Activities we might enjoy include:
Can a week make a difference in your Spanish?
Language teaching experts agree that living a language in an immersion setting is the most effective way to learn. A week of full immersion can make a difference you will notice. As you carry out your daily activities while speaking Spanish with your counselors and fellow campers, you will gain confidence and lose your fear of expressing yourself. You will feel the satisfaction of getting your Spanish outside the walls of your high school classroom, and into the real world with hands-on activities.
Your camp staff
Learn from EIU’s Spanish faculty with decades of experience using communicative, task-based teaching methodologies who have lived and worked abroad. Creative and energetic camp counselors with diverse backgrounds who are fluent in Spanish will join you in many of your activities, and live with you in the dorms right here on campus.
