There is a difference between “dropping” a course and “withdrawing” from a course. A drop occurs either prior to the start date of the class or by a specific deadline early in the term. (See the academic calendar for deadlines.) Students are not responsible for payment of hours for a dropped course. Withdrawal occurs after the drop deadline and students are held responsible for payment of the hours even though they are no longer enrolled in the class.
Late Retroactive Withdrawal
When a documented illness or other extraordinary circumstance prevents withdrawal from a course by the established deadlines, a student may request a late withdrawal. The deadline for initiating a late withdrawal is March 15 for the immediately preceding Fall semester and October 15 for the immediately preceding Spring or Summer semester. For more information about the Late Retroactive Withdrawal, please go to https://www.eiu.edu/registra/latewithdrawalpolicy.php.
Please note: If you have a university hold on your account, you will not be able to add any courses, and will require assistance from the Office of the Registrar to drop or withdraw from courses (Visit 1220 Old Main or e-mail from your EIU e-mail account to registration@eiu.edu; ask for help and specify the course you wish to withdraw from).
Please note: If you are prompted for an Alternate Pin before you can register for courses, please contact the IDS Degree Program Office at 217-581-5618. We will remove the pin when you contact us.
