GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS

Students seeking a graduate degree at Eastern Illinois University may receive a graduate assistantship from Housing and Dining Services. In exchange for duties performed, graduate assistantships provide a monthly stipend along with a tuition waiver scholarship.

Associate Resident Director (ARD) for Residence Halls, Greek Court, and University Court Applications generally open in January and remain open until mid-April each year.   

The ARD is responsible for the shared management, administration, services, and activities in a residential building/complex with the supervision of a full-time staff member. As a member of the professional staff, ARDs assist with the overall quality and efficiency of administrative activities as they relate to University Housing and Dining Services. ARDs are expected to use an approach that balances sound developmental concepts with a managerial philosophy in carrying out assigned duties. On specific occasions, you may be called upon to perform additional duties up to and including the coordination and supervision of specific projects, committees, and/or activities for the department.

Qualifications: 

Residence Hall:  Prior University housing leadership and/or staff experience. 

Greek Court: Greek affiliation experience. 

University Court: 1. Social media and content creation experience. 2. Market research experience.

Business Operations Applications generally open in November and remain open until mid-January. Currently, this position is filled until May 30, 2025.

The Business Operations is responsible for the accounting, reporting, reconciliation, and contracts for the 22 departments within Housing & Dining Services. The Housing operation includes Technical Support, Residential Life, University Apartment Operations, Dean of Students Office. The Dining operations include Retail Operations (Food Court, Catering, Java B&B and the Marketplace Convenience Store) in addition to the residence hall food services.  

Qualifications: Must apply to or be currently enrolled in the EIU MBA program with an emphasis in business or accounting and be willing to make a 2 school-year commitment to this assistantship.

Graphic Designer Applications generally open in January and remain open until mid-April each year.   Currently, this position is filled until May 2025.

Serve as a graphic designer for the University Housing and Dining Services department focusing on developing and updating pieces for a variety of mediums such as print and electronic (email, web, and social media).  Will coordinate activities/projects and awareness campaigns in areas identified by the direct supervisor.  Assists with supervision of Marketing Assistant undergraduate student designers focused on graphic design and other multimedia projects. 

Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in Graphic Design or a closely related field and seeking a graduate degree in a related field preferred.

Student Dietetic Coordinator    Applications generally open in November and remain open until mid-January. Currently, this position is filled through May 2025. 

The Student Dietetic Coordinatois responsible for supporting Panther Dining by assisting students with food allergies, intolerances, or special diets, working with staff to assess menu items for the Allergen-Friendly Station and various other nutritional concerns, and creating nutrition-related content for the dining centers, participating in campus-wide events and fairs and presenting allergen information during staff training. They will meet with students to provide counseling and educational resources related to special dietary needs and provide nutritional education materials for distribution through various channels. The Dining operations include Retail Operations (Food Court, Catering, Java B&B and the Marketplace Convenience Store) in addition to the residence hall food services. 

Qualifications: Must apply to or be currently enrolled in the EIU graduate school; MSND or MSND: Dietetic Internship Option (NDDI).

Student Hiring Coordinator Assistant     Applications generally open in November and remain open until mid-January each year. Currently, this position is filled until December 2025.

The Student Hiring Coordinator is responsible for supporting and assisting Panther Dining in the oversight of the student employment program.  They assist in the solicitation of student employment positions, and review the application process including; application processing, interviewing, hiring, training, and reporting. The coordinator will work closely with Unit Directors to help fill labor needs with Panther Dining operations. The Dining Operations include Retail Operations (Food Court, Catering, Java B&B and the Marketplace Convenience Store) in addition to the residence hall food services and employ up to 600-700 students annually. 

Qualifications: Must apply to or be currently enrolled in the EIU MBA program with an emphasis in business or human resource management.
