The TEACH Grant Program provides grants of up to $4,000 a year to students who are completing or plan to complete course work needed to begin a career in teaching. *This amount is currently adjusted each year as required by the Budget Control Act of 2011 (the sequester law).

A TEACH Grant-eligible program is a program of study that is designed to prepare you to teach as a highly qualified teacher in a high-need field that leads to a bachelor’s degree. Graduate and Post Bachelor's programs do not qualify at EIU.

High-need fields are mathematics, science, foreign language, special education, or any other field that has been identified as high-need in the annual Teacher Shortage Area Nationwide Listing (Nationwide List). https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ope/pol/tsa.html

I meet one of the following academic achievement requirements (check all that apply and attach any requested documentation as noted below): (Incoming Freshmen Only) I graduated from high school with a 3.25 GPA or above; or I scored above the 75th percentile on my ACT or SAT test in at least one subject/battery (English, Reading, Math, or Science). Our office will review your test scores on file. If your scores are not on file, please submit them to our office. I have established a 3.25 overall GPA or higher in college at EIU or another institution. (Please note that transfer GPA can only be used for eligibility at initial term of transfer.)

I understand if I am awarded the Federal TEACH Grant, I must do the following before my Federal TEACH Grant will disburse to my student account (you must check all boxes to agree): Annually complete entrance counseling related to the Federal TEACH Grant. Annually sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve. Maintain a 3.25 EIU cumulative GPA. (This requirement is waived for those who scored above the 75th percentile in at least one subject on the ACT test.)
Note: If you do not meet the requirements of your service obligation, all TEACH Grants you received will be converted to Direct Unsubsidized Loans. You must repay these loans in full, with interest charged from the date of each TEACH Grant disbursement.
