The Council on Graduate Studies met at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in the Arcola/Tuscola room.

Members participating: Dean Augustine, Dr. Costa, Mr. Goldacker, Dr. Hoberman, Dr. Key, Dr. Leitschuh, Ms. Meiners, Dr. Noll, and Dr. Reven.

Members absent: Dr. Havey and Dr. Liu.

Guests present: Dr. J. Dietz, Dr. W. Gibbs, Dr. L. Helsel, Dr. N. Marlow, Dr. S. McCann, Dr. A. Methven.

Staff participating: Dr. Herrington-Perry and Mrs. Rawlings.

I. Minutes.

The March 5, 2002 Minutes were approved as written.

II. Items to be Added to the Agenda:

None

III. Agenda Item to be Acted on:

02-07, Interim Format for Technology-Delivered Courses or Sections.

CAA members and Staff from the CATS Office joined CGS for a discussion of the hallmarks of high quality technology-delivered courses. Discussion centered upon what questions could be asked to ascertain that the learning objectives and content of wholly technology-delivered courses would be preserved. Gibbs and McCann distributed a document entitled, "Identification of Technologies to Support Electronically Delivered Courses, " and discussed it with the Council. The joint CAA-CGS Course Proposal Subcommittee will review the suggestions and redraft the Interim Format.

IV. Communications:

Dr. Herrington-Perry distributed a document to the Council indicating the web address for the 2002 CGS agendas and Minutes. All documents are now available at http://www.eiu.edu/~eiucgs/index.cgs.htm.

V. Reports.

None.

VI. Dean's Report.

The Dean informed the Council that March 20 was Capitol Hill day for graduate students, 45 of whom will have projects on display.
